Biography

Born in 1988 in Eskişehir, Pelin Atay embarked on her double bass education at the Anadolu University State Conservatory Music Department under the guidance of Prof. Esra Gül when she was 9 years old. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2009. During her studies, she actively participated in numerous solo and chamber music concerts. As part of the Anadolu Bas Club activities, she collaborated with Prof. Volkan Orhon (2003) and Aykut Durşen (2004). In the spring semester of the 2006-2007 academic year, she spent six months in the Erasmus student exchange program at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Music Academy in Poznan, Poland, where she had the privilege of working with Prof. Piotr Czerwinski.
In 2007, Pelin Atay played a significant role in the 8th International Double Bass Congress organized by the Janacek Music Academy in Brno, Czech Republic. There, she had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned figures such as Catalin Rotaru, Ekkehard Beringer, and Miloslav Jelinek. The following year, she actively participated in Bozo Paradzik's masterclass held in Bursa. That same year, she won the audition for Türkiye's first youth orchestra, the National Youth Symphony Orchestra, and performed in concerts both within the country and internationally. Her talent and dedication led her to achieve a high ranking in the auditions for the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009, granting her the privilege of playing in the double bass section.
In 2009, Pelin Atay further honed her skills by participating in the Kontrabass-Kaleidoscope program held in Kloster Michaelstein, Germany. During this intensive course, she worked closely with esteemed instructors such as Thomas Martin, Boguslav Furtok, and Silvio Dalla Torre. Her exceptional abilities earned her a place among the students selected to perform in the final concerts of the course.
Continuing her musical journey, Pelin actively participated in the 9th International Double Bass Congress held at the Janacek Music Academy in Brno, Czech Republic, during the same year. She also joined the Anadolu Bass Orchestra, founded by Prof. Esra Gül and its alumni, where she performed in concerts. In 2010, she further enriched her skills by actively participating in the Masterclasses held as part of the 4th World Double Bass Festival in Wroclaw, Poland. The year 2018 marked another milestone as she collaborated closely with Prof. Esra Gül during a Masterclass in Antalya/Kaş. Pelin's talent was on full display that year when she showcased her skills in a Double Bass-Piano recital alongside Hale Vural at Anadolu University.
Pelin Atay's dedication to her craft led her to pursue a Master's Degree Program at the Institute of Fine Arts, Anadolu University, Eskişehir, from 2016 to 2019. In November 2019, she successfully completed her thesis titled 'The Effect of Concentration Skills on Music Performance Applications and Development Methods,' culminating in a memorable graduation recital. Since 2011, she has been an esteemed double bass artist at the Antalya State Opera and Ballet.
